What you need
Passport, rental contract, Wohnungsgeberbestätigung (landlord confirmation), and completed Anmeldung form. Many cities require an online appointment (Termin).
After registration
You receive a Meldebescheinigung. Your tax ID (Steuer-ID) arrives by post separately. Keep copies for employer, bank, and university.
